Towards an EU-wide Microplastic Monitoring Campaign: First Upscaling Phase

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our EU-wide microplastic monitoring campaign, an initiative that unites secondary schools across Europe to learn on microplastic pollution in partnership with the scientific community.
This campaign empowers schools to take a leading role in monitoring microplastics in their local environments.


Campaign Overview:
  • First Upscaling Phase: April to October 2024
  • Participating Schools: 21 schools from 8 countries
  • Objective: To harmonise data collection methods and foster collaborative learning
PAST EVENTS
  • ​On the 26th and 27th of October 2023, the Erasmus Maris Days stood as a remarkable milestone in the journey towards marine conservation and education, endorsed as a key activity of the UN Ocean Decade.
  • At the awards ceremony of the European Maritime Days (EMD) in Brest (France), the RAISE-CS project pilot of the Erasmus Maris initiative was honored with the "award for the best educational initiative".
  • 20-24 March 2023:  The teachers of together with their pupils carried our a microplastic assessment campaign and an environmental awareness campaign in Burriana, Spain.
  • On February 17, 2023: We presented the Erasmus Maris initiative, of which RAISE-CS is a pilot project, to the European Committee of the Regions. ( https://cor.europa.eu/en/events/Pages/16th-sedec-commission.aspx).
  • On January 18 2023,  we organised a team-building event between the pupils of the European schools and pupils from vocational schools (including pupils with disabilities).
  • On October 25 2022, we had a Stakeholder meeting at the European Commission's Joint Research centre in Geel (Belgium)
  • RAISE-CS participated in the 4th ECSA Conference 2022: Citizen Science for Planetary Health, which took place 5-8 October 2022. There, we presented our project during the oral session 4: Citizen Science in education and schools.
  • Our 3rd RAISE-CS project progress meeting took place in Berlin between 3-4 October 2022
  • In June 2022 we had our 2nd RAISE-CS project progress meeting & Meeting with schools.
